For one thing, it's a lot of fun. It's an opportunity to carve out a space of your own on the internet, away from centralised social media.

On your site, you can make it look however you want, and write whatever you like.

This is a tutorial for people who want to build their own personal site. It's aimed at people of all skill levels, including those with no web experience at all. I'll take you through the very basics - what even is a website? - all the way through to getting your site on the world wide web and spreading the word.

I'm not here to tell you how to make your site profitable, or better optimised for search engines. This isn't aimed at people building websites for business reasons.
